How To: Quickly Free Up Space on Your iPhone

October 4, 2017 · by Tom

Over time, no matter the capacity of your iPhone, you will eventually need to free up space, and sometimes you’ll need to do so quickly. I’ll go over the best 3 ways to do so quickly and effectively.

1. Enable your iPhone to optimize storage.

Starting with iOS 11, your iPhone can recommend enabling a handful of items that will optimize the storage space on your iPhone ranging from auto-deleting old text conversations to offloading unused apps automatically. How nice! Check out the video below on how to enable this on your iPhone.

2. Unload all your pictures and videos to Google Photos.

The Google Photos App (click to check it out in the App Store) is one of the best ways to store all your pictures and videos in the cloud in a cheap and effective way. As of today, you are able to upload an unlimited amount of pictures and videos to your Google account. The only caveat for the free unlimited is that you allow Google to compress and optimize the resolution of the media before it uploads. If you’d like to retain the original quality of the pictures and videos, you can select the option to do so, but the storage will count against your Google storage quota.

The best thing about this option is that once your pictures and videos are uploaded to Google Photos, there is a button to automatically free up space on your iPhone by removing the photos/videos from your iPhone that have been successfully uploaded to Google Photos. I personally do this every few months. Check out the video below showing how to do just that (assuming you’ve already downloaded the app and allowed it to back up a few pictures and videos).

3. Delete any app you haven’t used in the past 30 days.

If you haven’t used a particular app in the past 30 days, then you should consider deleting it from your iPhone. If you need the app again in the future, you can simply jump into the App Store and re-download the app for free, even if it initially cost you money. If you decide to clean-house and remove a lot of apps but don’t want to forget what apps you had downloaded, take a screenshot of the home screen so you can reference it in the future.

Those are the best 3 ways to quickly free up space on your iPhone. Have a better way? Leave it in the comments section below! πŸ™‚
