How To: Add Website Bookmarks To Your Homescreen

February 25, 2012 · by Sam

Have you ever wanted a quick way to access a favorite website from your iPhone’s homescreen? Now you can!

This tutorial will explain how to add a website bookmark to your iPhone’s homescreen. At the end of this tutorial you will be able to create an icon on your homescreen that, when tapped, will take you directly to a website of your choice.

Adding a bookmark to your homescreen can do more than just enable quick access to a favorite website. Some websites have mobile sites that offer an experience that feels like a native iPhone app and not like a mobile website. For example, Fuelly (a gas mileage tracking, sharing, and comparing website) does not offer an iPhone app. However, Fuelly’s mobile site feels like it is a native iPhone application. By adding a bookmark to Fuelly on my homescreen, I am able to use the Fuelly website while feeling like I am using an app that I downloaded in the App Store.

Now let’s get to it!

Apple has made adding a website bookmark to your homescreen a simple process. First, open your “Safari” app and then tap on the white box that extends to the left at the top of your screen.

Type in the website for which you want to create a bookmark, and then tap on the blue “Go” button at the bottom right of the screen.

Next, tap on the button right in the middle on the bottom of the screen—the one that looks like an arrow coming out of a box.

Tap “Add to Home Screen”.

This next screen allows you to provide a title for the bookmark icon. After you enter in the title, tap the blue “Add” button in the upper right corner of your screen.

You are done! Wasn’t that easy? Whenever you click on your newly created bookmark icon, you will automatically be taken to your designated website.

You can do this for as many websites as you want. Further, you can put the bookmarks you create into folders for better organization. (Find out more about using folders here: [Link].)

You can find a few great mobile websites to try out your new skill over at Mac|Life [Link].
